Before you enroll in a plan, you need to understand what Medicare is and how it works.

What is Medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people 65 and older as well as people younger than 65 who have a qualifying disability. Medicare is different from Medicaid, which offers health insurance and other services to eligible low-income people of all ages.

Get answers to these questions:

With Medicare, can I see my doctor?

In many cases, yes. You must ensure your doctor accepts the plan you are considering enrolling in.

What does Medicare cost each month?

Most people do not pay a premium for Part A. Part B costs $148.50/month in 2021. Premiums for Medigap coverage, Part C, and Part D vary by plan.
